Gregory Markel Biographical Highlights & Timeline:1995: Gregory Markel, known with a select few as "one of the pioneers of search," has been active in search since 1995 when he helped turn a struggling real estate web design company around by offering this new thing called "SEO" to their clients who then quickly gained top positions for the highly competitive and prized keywords at the top search engines. The company then signed over 2,000 clients within 6 months thereafter.
Gregory's SEO code went on to populate over 60,000 real estate themed web sites ranging from individual agents to national real estate brand corporate sites including Prudential and Coldwell Banker. His code set the pioneering SEO standard for the fledging real estate SEO industry, was imitated by many at that time, and in fact, many sites coded back then are STILL in their top positions! ("Newport Beach Real Estate" on Google, #2, 12.14.05).
1999: In 1999, Gregory became Manager of the search engine optimization department of the publicly traded company, "Artist Direct", where he A) Optimized over 1,000,000 dynamic pages across a complex and multi-platform server farm, B) Achieved top ranking positions for "music", (Still 1st page on Google out of over 1 BILLION results), "download", "mp3" and artist keywords like "Brittney Spears" and "Eminem", "Madonna" and many, many others. (BTW, Gregory has optimized just about every pop/rock star site you can imagine!), and C) made SEO largely responsible for the only successful Artist Direct division, ecommerce. (Attested to by the Artist Direct CEO, Marc Geiger at the ESEMS conference in 2003.)
2001: Gregory lands his first major speaker role, speaking at Search Engine Strategies San Francisco, and seeing the "dot com bust" writing on the wall, Gregory stepped up his SEO consulting and provided services to Sony Picture's first SEO outing, "Final Fantasy." (According to DNA studio, "the only successful online marketing component of the campaign.). He shortly thereafter, started Infuse Creative in July 2001, with New Line Cinema's "Rush Hour 2" as the first major client project. (BTW, IC's provided services to EVERY New Line Cinema release since, now there's a happy client!). Later that year, Gregory and Infuse Creative would beat out the top SEO provider competition to win the 3 year SEM campaign for "Lord of the Rings."
2002: Gregory brings the National Geographic channel into the search engine marketing age.
2003: Always concerned with innovation, Gregory and Infuse Creative conceived and produced the first Entertainment focused Search Engine Marketing conference anywhere, "ESEMS." (http://www.esems.com). Held in Santa Monica, CA and sponsored by Overture, Ask Jeeves, and Singing Fish (Now owned by AOL). The conference was financially successful and provided the first public forum for Google to announce that 35% of searches on Gooogle.com were entertainment based.
2004: Gregory and Master Flash designer George Shaw conceive of and offer the first sophisticated, enterprise level Flash SEO solution and go on to consult with Macromedia's Flash development group on such. Gregory and Infuse Creative provide Mazda and Pacificare's first foray into search engine marketing driven lead generation. The results are so successful that both companies become contractual clients.
2005: Inspired by altruistic responses to hurricane Katrina, Gregory created SEMCARES, (http://www.semcares.com), a site and concept meant to A) Stimulate SEM volunteer efforts to deserving non-profits and relief organizations, and B) Provide a place for non-profits to go to find SEM providers willing to volunteer or discount their services.
Note: Additionally, 2005 marked a 140% revenue increase at Gregory's SEM company, Infuse Creative with many happy clients!
